This tour ends at the Hofburg Palace. Tour is offered in German in English. Follow the footprints of Empress Sisi, born the daughter of Duke Maximilian and Duchess Ludovika in Bavaria. In 1853, she got to know her cousin Emperor Franz Joseph, who she married. When Sisi arrived in Vienna, she soon found out that her life at the court in Vienna would not be very easy. The Viennese aristocracy made fun of her, and her mother-in-law Sophie took control of her life. Her children were taken from her and Sisi was barely allowed to see them, resulting in deep depression and illness. She focused on political issues and soon took an interest in Hungary, the very troubled neighbor of Austria. She was crowned Queen of Hungary in 1867. Her very liberal ideas, her call for a republic structure, and her efforts for the poor and troubled made her very popular with the Austrian people. In 1870, she withdrew from public life and tried to live as a private person. On the 10th of September while she was walking through Geneva, she was assassinated by a young Italian anarchist. You will also have a chance to visit the famous Spanish Riding School (entrance fee not included). The methods used by the Riding School, like those of the Cadre Noir, are based on the teachings of the French riding master François Robichon de la Guérinière. The strict standards of the School have not changed through the years. Young stallions are taught the basics first, then begin collected movements as they grow and strengthen. They are then assessed to determine if they are suitable for the demanding "airs above the ground" maneuvers of the Royal Lipizzaner Stallions. Tour includes hotel pickups but not dropoffs; this tour ends at the Hofburg Palace. Entrance to the riding school is not included. Rates are per person in US dollars. Child rates apply to ages 3 to 12; children 2 and under are free. Please reserve online, or call us toll-free at 800-208-4421. ![]() |
